He struck her before evading capture
Scenario

based on a true crime story
The bodies are dumped in the canals of Rotterdam (not Amsterdam) and London. Not only is it a compelling, uncomfortable drama, unique in that it doesn’t try to exploit misogynistic violence for kicks, it’s also an indictment of a justice system that involves everyone.
The victim is obviously compromised if he sees his career as a means to an end
All the police need is the ammunition, the perpetrator is the target, and the victim is the culprit; Passive encryption is then forgotten unless it becomes useful again. The viewer is also forced to face their expectations regarding the victim of a real crime.
Delia Balmer/Anna Maxwell Martin doesn’t bend to this convention, and the syrupy drama is better for presenting a round victim
They are usually vulnerable and somewhat passive people who lack self-confidence and are rarely conventionally attractive as film and television producers try to manipulate the emotions of their audiences.
